Manor Farm brings traditional Sioux Tipis to the Farm
As a 'special service' for Manor Farm guests we are pleased to announce that these Tipis are now available on a 'booked, built and removed' basis where Manataka Tipis will bring the Tipi's to the site, erect them and prepare for inhabitation and then after you leave will pack them up and take away again. This is a new service offered to introduce holiday makers to an exciting holiday concept and introduce inspiration to your next vacation.
Manataka Tipis (based in East Devon) have been making tipis for seven years, using the same design as the Native American tribes used. Although canvas has replaced the Buffalo hide, the feeling of energy and amount of space remain the same. These authentic reproductions create liveable and instructional tipis looking equally at home in backyards or world renowned museums.
The tipi's aerodynamics are such that when correctly pitched it can withstand the fiercest storms.
The smoke flaps are easily adjusted with the changing wind directions safely allowing a fire inside — even in heavy wind and rain creating a vortex which draws the smoke up and out.
The word Tipi (teepee) is from Lakota (Sioux language) "Ti" meaning inhabit or dwell and "Pi" a place. The Sioux Tipi is very popular because of the extensive historical information available about the tribe. The Sioux Sitting Bull is probably the best known of all American chiefs.
Now is a good time to try this unusual alternative hostelry and Tim will be pleased to talk to you about what you need, and you can always visit the Tipi site and see for yourself and then make all the arrangements with Tim after you have decided on your personal choice.
Camping in the Yurt...
We have recently erected a Mongolian Yurt in a quiet corner of our camping field and it will be available for hire from August onwards. It will be ideal for families as it is quite spacious and has two double futons which make two very comfy double beds with duvets, pillows and covers provided.
There is plenty of seating around the log burning stove for cosy evenings in and cards, books and board games are provided if the weather is poor. Cooking and washing up facilities are provided in a hut next to the Yurt, and there are already two established toilet/shower blocks on the campsite.
Electric is provided in the Yurt and the campsite has Wi-Fi access so you can use your laptop, and there is also a small wine cooler/fridge to keep your beverages cold. All you will need are your own towels, food and drink. There is also an onsite shop if you run out of anything.
Please call for availability and prices.
